In the Bible, the long-awaited birth of Jesus is not sentimental, nostalgic, sterile, or any of the other things we tend to associate with Christmastime. The birth of Jesus was a declaration of war against Satan, sin, and death. Darkness still has nightmares about the infant cries coming from that Bethlehem stable.
